R&D Activities
The Global Collaboratory conducts research, development and demonstration projects where an international or global collaboration can improve the research product. Toward that end, we:
- Conduct research on drylands issues that depends upon worldwide data from multiple field sites.
- Undertake comparative studies of the similarities and differences of phenomena and their impacts on different drylands’ regions.
- Develop and propose solutions to the common problems of urban living on arid lands.
- Provide test beds for the comparative demonstration and evaluation of those solutions.
- Develop theories and models that link our knowledge of global causes, mechanisms, and characteristics of natural, economic, and social phenomena with policies and actions designed to improve the livelihoods of people affected, around the world.
- Provide a resource to decision makers worldwide for evaluating policy alternatives on the basis of the best available knowledge from the natural, engineering and social sciences.
- Serve as a reliable source of pubic knowledge and conduct active programs in public outreach and education on issues of global change and living on arid lands.
