My office is located near a school in downtown Sacramento, and last week I walked out to my car at lunch and noticed my rear windshield was cracked! It looked like a ball, possibly a baseball had been thrown at it, I chalked it up to kids from the nearby school. Regardless, my windshield needed to be repaired! I called my go to auto glass repair technician, Precision Auto Glass, to see if they would be able to visit me at work and fix my rear windshield. Precision Auto Glass was very helpful on the phone and said they would be able to come out that afternoon to repair my windshield, but unlike my front windshield, when the rear windshield gets damaged it will usually need to be replaced completely. However, Precision Auto Glass, said they would be able to assist me in contacting my insurance company, making what could be an expensive repair virtually painless and smooth.

As soon as the technician from Precision Auto Glass arrived to my car, the highly trained technician removed and disposed of my damaged rear windshield and install a new piece of auto glass in around 60 minutes. I was so impressed with the efficiency and quality of service that Precision Auto Glass provided. Plus the convenience of Precision Auto Glass’ mobile service was incomparable.

I was moving from San Francisco to San Jose and needed to find a moving company for the job. I was starting a new job so I needed the move to be done fast so that I could be moved in before my new job started. I looked on Yelp and saw that Golden Bay Relocation, San Francisco Yelp Movers Page, has over 150 reviews on Yelp with 5 stars, so they were an obvious choice.

I called them and they let me know my move would be no problem. They were able to do it quickly even though I gave them such short notice. On moving day they arrived right on time and got straight to business. I couldn’t believe how fast they worked.

They took great care to pack all of my items properly, and knew exactly what they were doing so nothing would get damaged. They worked quickly and efficiently and I couldn’t have asked for better service. There’s a reason they have so many great reviews, and they’re about to get another!

I had noticed over the past week that our house wasn’t nearly as cool as it should be. I put my hand over one of our vents and realized the air coming out wasn’t even cool–something was wrong with our air conditioning! I didn’t have much patience, being the middle of Summer, so I decided to give Alley Heating & Air a call. They provide air conditioning repair in Sacramento and were just the guys I needed for the job.

They arrived promptly and on time, and got straight to work. They listened to everything I had to say about what was going wrong and what I’d been noticing over the previous week. They knew exactly what the problem was and exactly how to fix it. They had everything they needed to make the repair right in their trucks already with them, so they were able to get the job done quickly.

Fortunately, we didn’t need an entirely new system. They were able to fix the problem and got the existing system tuned back up and running well again. I know there are some companies out there who would have lied and said we needed to replace the whole system, just to make the extra money. But not with Alley. They were true and honest about the problem and fixed it as cost effectively as possible. You can trust Alley!

I’m a senior suffering from osteoarthritis and have a hard time getting around. I loved living in my condo and hated the thought of moving, but taking a shower was becoming too much and I had nobody to help me. Then my doctor recommended that I look into getting a walk-in tub from Premier Remodeling & Construction on Sacramento & Roseville. He said many of his other clients with limited mobility, like me, had converted to a walk-in tub and that it had changed their lives.

All I had to do was call and Premier came to my home for a free estimate. I loved the selection of tubs they offered and they paid close attention to my specific wants and needs. They even offer customized tile to accompany your tub, which I hadn’t seen from any other companies. Because I wasn’t sure what to expect, I was worried the tub might be an eye sore–but after seeing what Premier could do, I knew my tub would look beautiful and stylish in my bathroom.

On installation day, boy they took care of everything! The employees were very nice and respectful of my home, and I couldn’t believe what a great job they did. They walked me through everything and showed me how simple the tub is to use. They were able to do everything without changing the plumbing I already had. I couldn’t believe how fast the tub drains!

Now taking a bath is not only easy for me, it’s also relaxing and enjoyable. Soaking in the tub has helped to relax my muscles and relieve my joint pain. It is great to have my independence back, and not have to worry about falling in the shower or getting stuck in a standard tub. My walk-in tub from Premier has truly changed my life and I can’t imagine living another day without it!

This year, I got laid off and wasn’t going to be able to come home for the holidays. But Same Day Auto Title Loan was able to get me the cash I needed to be home in time for Christmas. After I was laid off, I was lucky enough to get offered another job right away, but I wouldn’t start until the new year, which means that I wouldn’t have the funds I expected to have to fly home for Christmas.

I was talking to a friend about how sad I was that I wasn’t going to be able to go home for Christmas, and she told me that I should try Sam Day Auto Title Loan because they were able to get her cash fast when she ran into some financial trouble the year prior. I was really happy to find out that there was a possible solution to my problem. She told me that they didn’t even need to check my credit!

So I went to Same Day Auto Title Loan to see if I could get some cash using my vehicle as collateral for the loan. I was approved almost immediately! It was the simplest process I have ever gone through to get a loan and the staff there was really nice and helpful about everything. I was excited to know that I would be able to go home and surprise my family. Even better was the fact that they had very low interest on the loan. Merry Christmas to ME!

I really happy that I was able to go home to see my family during the holidays—it meant a lot to all of us because I hadn’t been some since Christmas the year before. I was able to drink eggnog and spiced cider with my family this year, and I didn’t think I was going to be able to do that this year. Thanks to Sam Day Auto Title Loan, I was able to get the quality time with my family this Christmas!

white wine on table for tastingI’m a bit of a wine snob. Mainly because I’ve been spoiled with living in Europe for a few years after I went to college. I tasted wines from France, Spain and Italy—and some of the best, too. My exposure to fine wine wasn’t because of me, it was because of the company I worked for. I didn’t have a very well-paid position, but because we were in PR, we were sent some really great wines. And when we had to travel for work, my bosses had very expensive taste in wines. I rarely paid for the wine myself, but unfortunately, I developed a keen sense of what made for good wine.

As a result of being spoiled while I lived abroad, when I came home it was hard for me to appreciate cheap wine like I did during my younger years.  So when my friends wanted to go wine tasting, I assumed they would want to go to Napa, since we don’t live too far from there. But actually, they wanted to go to Old Sugar Mill, which is just outside Sacramento in Clarksburg, California. Having been away for so long, I hadn’t even heard of it before. And because I hadn’t heard of Old Sugar Mill before, I was pretty reluctant to go there.

But if I was the only one with an objection, I didn’t want to be the one holding up all of the fun. So I approved the wine tasting location, fully expecting to be more than underwhelmed.

When we arrived at Old Sugar Mill in Sacramento, I was pleasantly surprised with the beauty of the site. Since it was October, the winery was full of fall foliage and was brilliant with cool and calm weather. I almost felt like I was being transported to Paris in the fall. Almost.

When we got into the building of Old Sugar Mill, I saw that it was actually made up of several different wineries, eight to be exact. We started toward the back and the first winery we visited was called Rendez-vous Winery, the best wine tasting Sacramento CA. After reading some of their materials, I was pleased to see that the winemaker there also used to be a winemaker in Napa—he just recently began this winemaking endeavor in the Delta area.

After trying their wines, I was really impressed with what they were able to do with their blends and their white wine in particular. I love strong reds, but when it comes to whites, I like them syrupy and sweet. It’s weird, I know. But I was really happy with the wines I tried there.

We went to several other wineries as well and because of the first experience I had at Rendez-vous Wine Tasting, I was able to keep an open mind about what I would be tasting at Old Sugar Mill. It made me realize that good wine is good wine, no matter where it comes from.

I’ve heard it said that planning a move is one of the most stressful times in a person’s life. I would argue that planning a home remodel should rank even higher than moving on the list. But that’s mainly because when we were renovating our kitchen this year, we ran into a hack of a lot of road bumps.

From impending lawsuits to mechanic’s liens, our remodel was both stressful and delayed as a result. That’s why, when we decided it was time to remodel our bathrooms, we were extremely selective in who was going to get the job done for us. We felt the best way to find a great company was to ask our friends and family who had good experiences. After getting a few recommendations and referrals for Premier Remodeling & Construction, who operates in Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, El Dorado Hills, and Folsom, we decided they were the company for us!

Almost immediately, we knew we had made the right decision. Premier talked us through the entire process and told us what we would expect. They also gave us a very detailed quote and a timeline for the project. They told us it was their goal to finish each of their projects in a timely and orderly fashion. Some contractors take a long time simply so they can be paid more, but Premier said that they work hard to finish when they say they will, making sure not to compromise on craftsmanship and quality.

As time went by, and the project progressed. Premier did an excellent job of keeping us in the loop. If there was a day for some reason, they let us know. And if there was something we saw that we didn’t like, they were extremely receptive and willing to hear what we had to say and take it into account. We felt like our project was in the right hands the entire time.

In our bathrooms, we had Premier do our flooring, countertops, a vanity, mirrors and shower. It was an extremely detail-oriented project and we felt that they did an excellent job with each and every portion of the bathroom. When they were done, our bathroom was so stunning, we hardly wanted to use it. Sort of like a beautiful cake you don’t want to ruin by eating.

Since the bathroom was finished, we have brought so much business to Premier because we have sent our friends and family their way. Everyone who comes over to our home just raves about the custom tile work and the beautiful granite countertops.

I just started a new blog called Exploring Sacramento. The blog will be about my life in Sacramento, and will chronicle my daily activities as I remodel my home. Exploring Sacramento will not only layout the day to days of my remodel, but also give critiques of the companies I use along the way.

I’ve decided instead of trying to do the remodel myself, I’m going to use local companies that specialize in what they do. So far some of the companies I’ve used are American Window Manufacturing, a window replacement and shower door company in Sacramento, Countertop Designs, a kitchen and bathroom countertop company in Sacramento and Roseville, and Premier Remodel, a full service kitchen and bathroom remodling company in Sacramento.

If you have some time, please check out the new blog as I promise to keep it entertaining and updated with new, fresh and original content. For more information about my new blog venture, please visit Exploring Sacramento.

I would also like to take a moment to thank our readers at Global Drylands. Even though I’m diving a new venture, I’ll keep this Global Drylands going and stay committed to the same quality I’ve stuck to over the years. Cheers.

Manpower Movers, a San Diego moving company, now offers a free, Eco-Crates program to help customers save money on cardboard boxes. So what exactly are Eco-Crates?

Eco-Crates are durable, reusable plastic crates that measure about three feet long, by two feet wide and two feet deep. So they hold more than the average size cardboard box. Eco-Crates are rigid and won’t bend or collapse while carrying them from the truck to the residence or office. Plus, they are conveniently stackable. Best of all Manpower Movers’ FREE Eco-Crate service will save customers $100 and $200 in cardboard box purchases on their next move.

Manpower Movers San Diego, keeps about 700 of the crates in stock — to make them available to their customers free of charge. The company says that the average moving customer uses about 30 of these convenient, environmentally friendly crates, instead of the traditional method, that requires 40 or more cardboard boxes. Manpower Movers is one of the only San Diego Moving & Storage companies offering the free Eco-Crate Service.

When customers request the Eco-Crate Service, Manpower Movers drop off their crates about seven days before their scheduled moving date. It not only saves them a lot of money, but it also saves them the stress and hassle of tracking down and transporting the 30 to 40 cardboard boxes they would need to pack their household belongings. After the customer has emptied their Eco-Crates in their new location, Manpower Movers retrieves the crates free of charge. The Eco-Crates program is efficient for Manpower Movers, too, saving the company from having to stock and discard thousands of cardboard boxes each month.

Prior to making the move to Eco-Crates, Manpower was sending about 120 cardboard boxes per day — about 3600 per month — either to a recycling center or into the trash bin. The Eco-Crate program is a rare example of a planet-friendly service that reduces waste, saves customers money and doesn’t require any government subsidies.

Headquartered at 7960 Silverton Avenue Suite 125, San Diego, CA 92126, Manpower Movers serves customers in San Diego, Carmel Valley, La Jolla and Orange Counties. For more information, visit

Most people don’t think of dentists as being green, or even that dentists need to be green, but dentists account for 3.7 million tons of mercury and other chemical waste each year. Mercury is an extremely harmful substance, and often times the mercury gets disposed into our water system.

Carmichael Dentist, who specializes in Invisalign procedures, says there should be separators that keep the mercury out of our water system. Additionally, if dentists recycle their equipment and waste they could actually make money in the process. There are companies who buy waste products and equipment. It’s not uncommon for a dentist to save fifty thousand a year by simply recycling their products.

The best way to encourage your dentist to become more green is to ask them at your next visit if they recycle their waste and used equipment. The more information you can gather and the more questions you ask might plant the seed for your dentist to look into the practice of going green with a little more urgency. Mercury in our water ways is a problem, and is contaminating our wild life, our drinking water, and our ourselves. Lets all work together and do our part to make our planet a safer and cleaner place.
